Sculpture show honoring Israel

Zahara Schatz has an exhibit of Kinetic Sculptures. Laminated Plastics and Mixed Media at the America-Israel Cultural House. 4 East 54th Street. The exhibit is in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the State of Israel and opened Wednesday, May 24.

Zahara Schatz, Israeli artist, was born in Jerusalem. She is the daughter of Boris Schatz, founder of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. He is regarded as the ‘‘father” of Israeli Art and was the first director of the Bezalel Museum.

Zahara studied painting in Israel and in Paris (Academie de le Grande Chaumiere). Her one-woman shows include San Francisco Museum of Art; Santa Fe Museum of Art; Tel Aviv Museum; Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Her works were included in the following group shows: San Francisco Museum of Art; Los Angeles Museum of Art; Venice Biennale; Denver Museum; Milan Triennale; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Tel Aviv Museum; Haifa Museum; Museum of Modern Art, Paris.

Zahara won the following prizes: 1959 Dizengoff Sculpture Prize; 1954 State of Israel Prize for Art; 1954 Triennale, gold medal; I960 Yad Vashem Prize, Memorial Light; 1950 Museum of Modem Art Prize for Lamp Design.
