With Palestine in the public eye, the work of Zahara Schatz, a native Palestinian whose first New York showing opened last week at the Pinacotheca, is of special interest. The artist studied in her native country and in France, becoming interested in abstractionism. While her seven oils are strong and notable for their color, a larger group of experimental compositions are of special interest. Miss Schatz has worked with two plates of plexiglass, creating abstractions by placing bits of metal and wire and pigments between them. She calls the collection “improvisations.” Her technique is delicate and her results striking.
